Saga Ruby (ex Vistafjord)

Saga Ruby was built by Swan Hunter as Vistafjord for the erstwhile Norwegian America Line. (See this picture of Saga Ruby (Vistafjord) during the outfitting). The history of Saga Ruby until her last years with Cunard, when she was renamed Caronia, is described in detail at www.cybercruise.com.
Following an extensive refit she emerged as Saga Ruby of Saga Holidays in 2006. You can get an impression of her present condition at www.shipparade.com and at www.maritimematters.com. Whereas it seems that the ship is more beautiful than ever after the refit supervised by Alison Clixby this is embittered by the sad fact that Saga Holidays does not allow passengers who are younger than 50 years aboard Saga Ruby and Saga Rose. (The only exception are accompanying persons for whom the age limit is lowered to 40 years)

In the German speaking world the name Vistafjord became very well know as she was the location for the first episodes of the well know German TV series 'Das Traumschiff' which is still continued. (see also the official page of 'Das Traumschiff')
1997 was a very bad year for Vistafjord as she encountered two fires: NTSB report on the fire in February 1997 fire - NTSB report on the fire in April 1997. A narration of one of the incidents is found at www.oceanliner.org.
