Monarch of the Seas was the second of three groundbreaking ships built at Chantiers de l'Atlantique St. Nazaire (now part of Aker Yards) for Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines. In 1998 Monarch of the Seas struck a reef while leaving St. Maarten and was intentionally run aground. See this joint report of the U.S. Coast Guard and the Norwegian Maritime Investigator. Photos are found at Fakta om Fartyg and at Simplon postcards.
A review of Monarch of the Seas is available at www.cruisepage.com - a travelogue of a cruise with the sister ship Sovereign of the Seas is found at 'RCI Fan'
François Zanella has built a model of the sister ship Majesty of the Seas which is of rather unusual dimensions.
